Believe it or not, I’m actually paying for a beer at the Green Dragon right now. I know, I know, I get my first beer for free, but I got here a bit early and I wanted to have something to drink while I waited for Dan and Kristine to show up and they start pouring for tonight’s “Meet the Brewer” (4th Street Brewing from Gresham, Oregon). So I bought myself a beer and I’m drinking the first pint of beer from a glass pint glass here that I can remember in recent memory. It’s been since at least last year.
My goal of losing 10 pounds by October 31 is…coming along. I feel like it is, at least. I weighed myself on Saturday and I was down about 5 pounds from when I started, but that’s still within a day-to-day margin and that was also before I ate my weight in cheese later that day. More on that later. But still, I’m comfortable enough wearing the next size down in jeans, which was quite the revelation for me, both because it surprised me so much and also because that means that with a few weeks of sticktoitivness I could have saved the money I dropped on jeans of a larger waist size. Meh. On the other hand, I did tear a hole in the jeans of this size I had previously, so I needed to buy jeans anyway. I’m not back where I was before, though–I still have a long ways to go for that–but it puts me closer to my goal.
So, the cheese festival. It was cheesy. There was goat’s milk cheese, sheep’s milk cheese, cow’s milk cheese, blends, cheese with pesto, cheese with jalapenos, cheese with garlic, cheese with mint. There was pretty much every cheese I can imagine. And you know what? I ate samples of the vast majority of them, limited only by crowds lingering in front of booths and a desire not to eat any more goat cheese after the first dozen or more samples. I ate a lot of cheese. Afterward, we were all sitting outside at the Green Dragon (where it was held) drinking beers and I said that I probably wouldn’t need to eat cheese for another two hours. And two hours later, we were sitting in Dan and Kristine’s apartment drinking wine and eating cheese and crackers. I didn’t think it would be possible to eat any more cheese that day…but I sure showed myself who was boss.
