Old friends and Istanbul
July 31, 2008
Last night Hanne and I got together with my old friend Michiko and her husband, neither of whom I’ve seen in a number of years. We caught up over beers and dinner at the Green Dragon, though they couldn’t stick around for a homebrew or two since they had to get back to Newburg where they’re staying. I did send them off with three 22 oz. bottles of my beer, though: a bottle of Purple Circle Porter, a bottle of my wheat, and a bottle of my IPA. Once they departed that inspired me to try a bottle of the last beer I’d made, the all grain IPA. The first batch was so horrible I’m in the process of pouring out all 5 gallons of it, but this batch was much better. It needs a bit more time for the tastes to fuse, but I’m happy with it so far.
NPR put the song “Istanbul” in my head this morning thanks to a story on Turkish politics, so I’ve been whistling and singing that all morning. SOMEONE MAKE IT GO AWAY.
