Busy weekend
December 7, 2007
…but it all starts off with what promises to be a good Friday.
First on the schedule is lunch at Mothers Bistro with my friend Laura, a former coworker. In addition to their mac and cheese du jour that always tempt me, Mothers also serves breakfast until the afternoon. Unless the mac and cheese is particularly exciting today, I plan on indulging in two eggs over hard, potatoes, and wheat toast with a cup or two of coffee. Yum.
Next up is a quick drink at the Lotus Room with Kat, an even-more-former former coworker as a celebration of her last day at the company I used to work for before entering the legal industry. I only have time to stay for one drink, though, because Hanne and I are due up at the Alameda Brewhouse around 5 for Happy Hour drinks and food with my friend Phil (still yet another former coworker!). Hanne and I haven’t been to Alameda since her Dad was in town over the summer, and it’s been far too long. In addition to a nice selection of beer, they have probably one of the best brewpub menus in town. I’m always particularly enthralled with their veggieburger, which they make themselves from spent grain from the brewing process.
When I get a more professional homebrew setup, I’m really looking forward to using spent grains in bread, veggieburgers, etc.
Last on the day’s menu is a quick drink with another former coworker as Hanne and I swing back through downtown on our way back to SE Portland. Hopefully I’ll have enough left in me for another drink, but since I plan on having just one drink at the Lotus so I can catch my bus in time, I don’t think there will be a problem.
I went for a run after work at Bally yesterday, and I’m starting to remember how much I like running after work. Not only does it make for a nice way to blow off steam, but it relaxes me for the rest of the day. Made me really hungry, too–I devoured a chicken enchilada and a plate and a half of chips and salsa at Aqui last night for dinner.
Hanne and I have just started watching both “The Wire” and “Nip/Tuck” as our new episodic TV shows. Hanne was initially a little apprehensive at starting “Nip/”Tuck” since she was more interested in “The Wire,” but last night after promising we’d watch “The Wire” after an episode of “Nip/Tuck” she instead wanted to keep watching “Nip/Tuck.” I believe her exact words were “What? You can’t stop it there. Put in another.” Awesome.
