Payday!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Payday! I got handed my first paycheck today when I got in to work, and so I’m looking forward to depositing it in my checking account on my way home. It’s even a little higher than I expected, and so I can redo my monthly budget figures and figure out just how much money I’ll have to toss around each month aside from the costs I know I’ll have. Since it’s higher than I expected even during the 90-day probationary period, that means that after I get a performance review and pay raise at the end of that period, I can re-evaluate my budget yet again. It’s nice to be earning some money finally. Now I just have to find something to do with it.

I did finally get to go grocery shopping last week, and we stocked up on cereals galore. That’s really on of my meals of choice when I can’t think of anything else to have. Cereal is usually what I have two meals out of the day, actually. But it’s a rare day if I have cereal for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. I wouldn’t want to get scurvy or anything. I need to go back to the store this week and get a few things that I know I need, like ingredients to make more hummus (I made waaaaay too much the last time I made it and it went bad, so I’ve been holding off making sandwiches for dinner, so now of course I’m afraid for the turkey….), some lettuce, and I think I might buy some tea to have here at work. I’m the type of person that always has to be drinking something, which is part of the reason why I go through so much Diet Coke. I also go through water if I have it, and here at work I usually have at least a quart of water each day in addition to the liter of Diet Coke I buy with lunch each day. So I think I may go buy tea, caffeinated tea, preferably, since I’ll usually be having it in the mornings. If I buy a big box, I can leave it in the breakroom for everyone to enjoy, as I see that there are a bunch iof varieties in there now with depleted supplies. I bought a bunch of tea about a year and a half ago when I had strep, and I know I brought it back from school. I wonder where they are now. Hmmm….

This weekend was quite relaxing. I played on my computer a good deal, caught up on my sleep, did three loads of laundry, and that’s about it. Not too exciting, I know, but I didn’t have the money or the company to go out somewhere, and I was perfectly happy with my weekend the way it ende dup, with maybe the exception of wanting it to be longer. I still have Memorial Day weekend coming up in a couple of weeks, so I have to start planning for that if I want to do something. My Dad offered to go hiking with my in the Columbia River Gorge, and that’s definitely a tempting offer, but I’m still tossing around the idea of going over to Eastern Oregon for a few days and seeing about one of the Three Sisters. I don’t know. I have some thinking to do.

I saw that the movie Troy came out this weekend to mostly tepid reviews, and that disappoints me some. The story of the Trojan War is one of the oldest tales told in the world, and despite the myths surrounding it as told by Homer, I think that it was one of the greatest events in world history, right up there with the two World Wars. And what makes it so great is that historians still have a good deal of knowledge about it, though of course, much has faded with time. Really, though, part of what makes the story so fantastic is the involvement of the Greek Gods. I mean shoot, Achilles was a demi-God and not just some kickass warrior, and I’m told that the movie complely skips over that aspect of him. He’s not just uber-powerful, but he was literally invulnerable to weapons. Well, except for one place on his body, which I’m sure for those of you unfamiliar with the tale can guess. I’d like to know how they’re going to explain the death of Achilles when someone shoots an arrow into his foot, personally, without explaining the background of his immortality. Eh, probably see it at the $3 theater. Personally, I’m looking forward to the releases of Shrek 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban, and Spider-Man 2. I don’t have high hopes for any of them, but I think that I’ll definitely enjoy all three.

I feel that a lot in my life has changed in the last year, and it’s an interesting sensation to know that I’m starting “the rest of my life” as in were, though that’s not really job-specific, more like the situation that I’m in now. It started with graduation a year ago, then moved a step further with moving in with my sister, and now it’s moved even further with me having a job in which I can largely be self-sufficient. Things aren’t exactly how I pictured they would be, but that’s no fault of my own. Things in the last year have changed dramatically for me, and even though they’re not my expectations, I think that I’ll be able to adapt.

Lunch is almost over. That’s all I have for now. Hope everyone had a good weekend.
