Cable TV spells F-U-N fun!

I’m finding that life here in Heather’s apartment is treating me very well. Not only do I have 24-hour cable telelvision to soothe the mind, but I have a fitness room available for me to soothe the body, as well. Actually, it doesn’t really soothe the body, since my tummy still hurts from the situps I did on Monday, but I guess the cable telelvision and the exercise room are able to balance the negative and positive aspects out. I can finally go back to a stable exercise routine, so I’m doing a Monday-Wednesday-Friday thing for the time being until my body readjusts. Though honestly, I’m not certain I’ll ever go back to a five day a week routine since I don’t really need to lose weight anymore. I’d like to maintain the good weight I had last fall before my knee exploded, and so that means toning down a bit, but I don’t need to be dropping pounds. Should be an interesting experiment. The fitness room has treadmills, stationary bikes, and generic cardio machines, and I’m told there’s a weight machine being repaired, so when that shows up I’ll have just about everything I need without spending the money to join a gym.

Not that I have the money to join a gym right now, in any case. I did get a long- and much-deserved paycheck that was due, so I can pay the bills, do a little bit of grocery shopping, and hopefully have a bit to carry me to the next paycheck so someone isn’t carrying me. Of course GETTING the next paycheck is going to be a bit of a stretch at the moment. The paycheck was passed through my Dad, and I haven’t spoken to Martin in some time. He told me that I should give him a call because he had some more work for me to do, so I called him on Tuesday, but haven’t heard back from him yet. I’ll try again today, I suppose, and maybe I can start something over the weekend.

Anyone see those Victoria’s Secret ads with Bob Dylan? Man, what is the world coming to? I’m told that he once said in an interview probably 40 years ago that the only type of commercial he’d ever do is for women’s underwear, but still, Bob Dylan doing commercials seems so…wrong. He’s always seemed like the poster child (poster man?) for anti-commercialism, and so I’m a bit befuddled by all of this.

Civil war in Iraq? Who’d have thought. Did anyone see this coming? Only everyone with half a brain. I can’t think of a single example in history off the top of my head where a government has been toppled by an outside force, a new one installed, and there hasn’t been either violent struggle or all-out civil war. That is, unless the toppling external power did things like cut off the heads of insurgents and put them on pikes in the center of the city. But we don’t do that kind of thing, hopefully. Then again, there isn’t a whole lot of media coming out of Iraq, so I don’t REALLY know for sure….

I also want to point out, in a move destined to solidify my intellectual superiority over my elder sister, I beat her in Trivial Pursuit–twice–this weekend. To be fair to her, one of the times was with her copy of “Star Wars Trivial Pursuit”, but still. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Of course, playing TP with me is like playing Scrabble with my Dad. Chances are, the challenger doesn’t stand a chance. I had friends at school who refused to play games along those lines with me anymore because I kept beating them. Of course, they also stopped playing some video games with me for the same reason. I had people actually get mad at me on some occasions–over a video game. I mean, how silly is that? Dan and Heather D. finally banded together against me in one game and vowed to learn all the tricks until they could match my skills–which Dan did–but I retired before they could turn the tide against me. I have a feeling that Dan eventually would have started beating me, so I made the right choice.

So here I am, Friday, April 9th. My Mother’s 60th birthday. Happy birthday, Mom! My sister and I are making a nice dinner tonight for her over here, so that should be fun to make. Tomorrow, my sister has a human needlepoint appointment (also known in some circles as acupuncture) and then after that we’re going to go to the Bridgeport brewery downtown for some lunch since I think she’s getting sick of hearing about me rave about the place. Then next Tuesday, she takes off for ten days for a company retreat in California, so I’ll have a swinging bachelor pad for more than a week! Nothing like watching TV until you fall asleep to spell entertainment! Woo!

So that’s where I stand. Been a pretty good week, enjoying everything here so far. Have a good weekend, all.
