Still in the real world.

Man, I had something I wanted to write about that I thought of last night, but the topic eludes me for the time being. Maybe it’ll come to me eventually.

My day sans Star Wars Galaxies went quite well. I finished my book about the Rwandan genocide with the least possible amount of fanfare (which is about what I expected), though I came out of it with the feeling that I always had after all my international PoliSci classes: the world sucks. There are no states in this world that do the right thing ever, just things done for their own welfare and self-interest. The United States didn’t get involved in the genocide (and didn’t ever acknowledge it as such because doing so would have legally obligated them to act) because they didn’t want to have to commit troops to a random African country that few had ever heard of less than a year after losing 18 Army rangers in another African country that few had ever heard of in an uncharacteristic show of goodwill. France managed to get involved, but only in the way of being one of the arms dealers to those actually committing the genocide.

So yeah, the world sucks. One of the other books I laid out for myself that I hadn’t read is S: A Novel About the Balkans, so I think perhaps I’ll wait until NEXT week to start that.

I did manage to go jogging yesterday. On pavement. I only went for a mile and a half since going two on a treadmill isn’t quite the same. I think it’s interesting that I jog at least two miles on my Dad’s treadmill every time I stay over there, but a mile and a half on pavement means I can barely use my legs today. It’s only bee about four months since I stopped jogging regularly! I can’t believe that my leg muscles could atrophy that fast, but hey, I kinda like that feeling of muscles being really sore. I didn’t go today, though, because the last time I decided to jog through soreness I ended up with my knee wrappeded and iced for more than a week. I don’t think that the two incidents necessarily had anythign to do with each other, but I know that I need to get back into jogging slowly. Every other day I think will be my schedule as long as the weather’s good. It felt really good, though.

Today was a Star Wars light day, and I didn’t play for very long. But for the rest of the night, I’m going to veg out on TV. Friends and ER, mostly, though I wish Scrubs was still on Thursday nights to fill in the hole between the two shows. Catch you all later.
