I spoke too soon about the demise of winter, it seems.
January 5, 2004
The weather today: cold, high of 30, wind chill making the temperature drop into the single digits thanks to an all-day wind blowing a bit of fresh snow around. As usual, I heard a lot of compliants from people about how cold it is outside.
Amateurs.
I feel like I’m back in Beloit, except my room is warmer since I don’t have a cold-conducting outside wall and a blocked heater. Oh yeah, that and I don’t HAVE to go outside if I don’t want to. Now, for those of you in the Portland area complaining about the bitter cold, now imagine this for FOUR FRICKIN’ MONTHS. And then hot weather, then snow again, then rain, then hot, then more rain, etc. This is NOTHING.
Though I may end up going out anyway just because I can, and I hope that it’s not icy out when I do. If there’s ice on the roads, I’ll have to walk to the bottom of the hill and take the bus to the transit center, then of course, do that in reverse for the return trip, which will be a pleasure, naturally. I need the exercise, though. I haven’t been exercising anywhere near as much as I used to. I went from every day to every other day to every few days to now MAYBE once a week. It’s too cold to do anything outside, and there’s not a whole lot inside I can do here in terms of cardio excercises to get the blood pumping. I think I’ve just about expended the usefulness of my Mom’s exercise machine that she has here, and I don’t even break a sweat after 20 minutes of usage at a high rate. *Sigh* Oh well, on to bigger and better things, I suppose.
But that said, let me pull my vest a little tighter as I watch the swirling snow outside the window here in the computer room.
