Cubbies are going down!

I went out to a McMenamin’s tonight and met my friend Mike, and we had a few beers and watched game 6 of the Cubs/Marlins showdown. I know that not many of you are following it too closely, but here’s my experience of the game for the night:

-I start watching in the second inning. The score is 1-0 Cubs, I figure that Kenny Loften homered in his first at bat. I’m right.

-I get to McMenamin’s, score is still 1-0 Cubs. Little change until the bottom of the 7th inning, when it’s 3-0 Cubs.

-Top of the 8th inning, score remains at 3-0 Cubs, now there’s one out.

-Let’s skip this part for now so that I don’t anger any Chicago fans out there.

-By the end of the 8th inning, it’s 8-3 Marlins. What the hell? say Cubs fans around the country. You read right, the Cubs gave up *8* runs in the top of the 8th. …and the Marlins win.

Great baseball. Game 7 is tomorrow night, and I’m definitely watching. Sunday’s game was better baseball, this one was more exciting to watch. In the 8th inning, all of Wrigley and the other 20,000 fans outside the stadium were on their feet cheering and waving “I believe!” signs. By the end of the 8th inning…not so much. In fact, most of the fans were sitting with their arms crossed, or like one woman I saw on TV, praying. 95 years of history is hard to beat, though.

Most of today was spent job hunting, alas, no luck. I applied to one job through email, another is going out tomorrow via snail mail. It’s getting a little frustrating, but I know that I’ll find something soon enough. Well, eventually at least.

Today’s pictures of the day is brought to you by McMenamin’s fine brewery and Diet Coke. Take a look at some pictures from my college campus if you haven’t already!

And on that note, I’m going to go watch this week’s “Nip/Tuck” and then go to sleep. For those interested, my knee has actually felt a little better today. I didn’t get an opportunity to ice it today, but I stayed off it most of the day and kept it stationary for most of the night, even though it wasn’t in an Ace bandage. As I went to sleep, I realized that my foot was EXTREMELY cold, even given my covers and the socks I had on. That told me my bandage was too tight and was cutting off the circulation to my foot. I didn’t know what a restriction of the blood supply would do over an eight or nine hour period, so I just took it off for the night and didn’t bend my knee a lot. Same with today. It’s not great, but I have a bit more range of motion.

Oh yes, and I’m also watching Frank Herbert’s Dune with my Mom. I knew she’d enjoy it. :)

Did I ever mention that Joe tore a tendon in his ankle a week and a half before the Portland marathon and still wanted to run? Well, I did learn some interesting things during that time. One of them is that circulation decreases in your sleep. In other words, compression is fine while you’re awake, but take that thing off when you go to bed!
