Lazy Sunday…very lazy Sunday.
September 28, 2003
Today has been a pretty boring day, honestly. I spent an hour or so working on my website and trying to solve a problem that’s been bugging me since I switched over to this system in July (the boxes down at the bottom of the right sidebar that say “Syndicate this site” and “Powered by” are flush with the content on one side, away from the other side…aargh!), but I gave up after awhile and posted a message to the support forums that the company who makes my software runs. They don’t have any formal support unless you want to drop them $50 or so, and even then, as far as I know it’s only installation support. Guess I’m out of luck and I have to count on the good graces and skills of others. Fat chance there. This will be my third message to their forums about the same issue, and I’ve only gotten a response once.
I roamed some other support forums for awhile today as a giver and not seeker of information, too. I like following the development of the Mozilla web browser so I surf the official forums a few times a day and try and offer information to new users. I passed my 200th post, too. According to my statistics, I joined in November of 2002, I’m responsible for 0.1% of all the posts in the forums, and I’m up to 0.65 posts a day. I think if I can pull it up to 1 post a day through posting many messages for a few weeks in a row, I’ll at least look like a solid “netizen” to my fellow Mozilla users. I did, however, have better luck in those forums than I did in the first. I finally solved a long-time problem with a piece of software I use occasionally and had been preventing me from fully appreciating it.
I think my email account has been having trouble lately. I mentioned in a previous post a few weeks ago that I was having issues receiving emails, and now I’m getting the emails every morning I should, but people have sent me some email in the last couple of weeks that I’ve never received. I don’t know if that’s because they have my email address wrong (as it’s been known to happen, even in my own family, right Dad?) or because my email address isn’t properly forwarding to me or because Comcast, my ISP, is being stupid again. *Sigh* I’m just afraid that I’ll miss an email that’s really important, like a job notification or something. I sure hope that hasn’t happened. I sure hope it DOESN’T happen.
Last night went quite well at the family dinner. Thanks again to my family for having it. It’s always nice to BBQ, and we won’t have too many more time this year to do it in good weather. My Dad and tepmother brought some nice New York strip steaks that turned out quite well despite my inclusion of rosemary in the seasonings I used on the steaks prior to cooking at my Dad’s objection. It seems that he thinks that rosemary was put on Earth for one reason: to season lamb. Guess what, Dad? I put it in my pizza sauce and pizza crust! Ha!
The rest of new day has been spent doing…what else? Watching TV. Well, it’s been on in the background as I did some other things. I did stop and watch my copy of “Equilibrium” while I ate, but other than that my night has been filled with ‘Star Trek,” which it seems is all that’s on TV on Sunday nights…. Frankly, it wasn’t all that interesting, even though I hadn’t seen any of the episodes that aired. Right now the premiere of “The Lyon’s Den” is on NBC, Rob Lowe’s solo effort after his departure from my beloved “West Wing.” Maybe I gave Rob Lowe too little credit for bailing on “West Wing” when he did. This last season had it’s good moments, but overall I was fairly bored. When Aaron Sorkin, the creator, executive producer, and primary scriptwriter left the show with one or two of the other head honchoes, I knew that those were the final nails in the coffin that was built when Lowe left. Maybe he saw something that we didn’t, I don’t know. In any case, I’m not too excitec about this show. It’s pretty boring so far, and I don’t think I’ll be watching it full time. Plus, it comes on in the same timeslot as another show I like, “The Dead Zone.” Guess I won’t have to pick and choose.
Another week, another chance for more job hunting. I’m on the case. I just don’t know where it’s leading me.
