Why can’t all my meals at Commons be this good?
April 6, 2003
Woo! I remembered to put in CDT instead of CST as the time, since as of today we are not on daylight savings time. Wait, is that right? Well, I’ve been using CST since October, so I think this must be the switch to CDT. Maybe I’m just tired and not remembering right. Eh, either way. I was up until 4 AM Saturday morning and 4 AM Sunday morning, so I’m not doing too well in the sleep department.
I had a great weekend, though. Friday night was a fantastic dinner at Commons–vegan black bean burritos (just meant there was no cheese in it, only beans and rice), chicken fried chicken (patties only, not pieces of fried chicken), and veggie burgers. I went overboard and had three burritos and two pieces of chicken fried chicken, plus one veggie burger. These were more like Boca burgers that I don’t like as much as Gardenburgers, but they were pretty good nonetheless. Saturday night I made a pizza from scratch to get rid of my last packet of yeast, and it turned out wonderfully. I put on pepperoni (not too much), green peppers, onions, and some “ground beef” crumbles that Morningstar sells that are vegetarian but are supposed to taste like ground beef. I actually wanted sausage, but I figured I was already pushing my caloric intake for the day, and I decided to try the Morningstar stuff instead. It’s actually pretty good, and it’s supposed to be used in meals like Hamburger Helper, but it worked well for pizza, too. Tonight I made breakfast for dinner, using the last of my cheddar cheese I bought weeks ago to make an omlette that I also used the veggie crumbles in, plus my last five veggie sausages and a can of biscuits. Pretty tasty stuff. I’m definitely full from that.
The weekend is ending pretty badly, however. That’s right, I’m writing, and in two hours I have a group meeting for my presentation on Tuesday that I’m not prepared for. I need about another page and a half to meet my minimum page length requirements for my independent project, and if I concentrate and keep working (despite taking a break to meet with my group at 10) I think I’ll be able to do it successfully. I’m going to skip doing a proper bibliography and footnotes for the time being, but I can easily have that done by the time I turn in my final draft. I’m a bit skeptical about having my entire grade for the project based on this one paper, but I guess that’s what I signed up for. Tuesday is my presentation that I mentioned, and then Thursday is my second exam for Senior Seminar. Thursday is student symposiums, so I have the day off from classes, but I have to turn in my exam anyway. Thursday night I’ll be a very happy camper, because I won’t have anything due on Friday. After this week, I have two papers for my African Politics class, my final drafts of my Senior Seminar and independent project papers, and my Quant client project, and that’s it. It sounds like more work than it actually is, honestly. One of the papers for Beth is due next week, so that will be out of the way, and the other one is on a topic of my choice. My two papers that need final drafts are essentially done (well, my independent project one is), but the client project still looms over me. That will be a thorn in my side, but I think I can handle it. At least I’ll have most of the rest of this all done by the time that’s pressuring me. Oh yes, and I must do my taxes this week.
The response from my request for feelings about my email notifications has been 100% positive from the people that wrote back to me. That means that for the time being, I’ll keep sending out the emails when I update my website. I haven’t gotten back to some of you who wrote me yet, but rest assured, once I get this blasted paper out of the way I’ll respond to your emails. I just wanted to pop in and say hey, I’m out here, and I hope you all are, too. OK, back to work.

Blah.
